Fireworks, bricks and stones were pelted at officers in the Carlisle Circus area from a loyalist crowd in Denmark Street.

The groups gathered during the evening and fireworks were thrown just before 10pm.

Water cannon moved into the area, but was not deployed and retreated at around 11pm.

The Antrim Road was sealed off by police but has since reopened.

The injured officers did not require hospital treatment and six people were detained at the scene and remain in custody.

Meanwhile, First Minister Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness are due to hold a meeting with north Belfast's MP Nigel Dodds and MLAs at Stormont Castle on Wednesday afternoon to discuss the disorder.

More than 60 officers have been injured in three nights of disorder in the area, which started after a Republican march on Sunday.

Three men, aged 18, 19, and 20 have been charged with riotous assembly and are expected to appear at Belfast Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old is also charged with resisting police, indecent behaviour, and possession of a blade in a public place and three counts of assault on police.

The 18-year-old is facing three counts of assault on police.

Two boys, aged 15 and 17, are due at Belfast Youth Court on Wednesday charged with riotous assembly.

They are all charged in relation to trouble close to Carlisle Circus on Monday night.

Someone mentioned the UN helping. Well there is nothing United about the UN just take a look at Syria. The Chinese and Russians hate the West so I think they couldn't careless about our mindless thugs with drums and sashes. Oh I, and big sticks LOL.

So agree Neil, but the parents would be the 1st one's up in arms should their precious little destructive delinquents were hurt - pull the police out let them riot amongst themselves and torch their own areas and stop the funding to rebuild and repair their local areas. Don't think they would be rioting in their own areas every year when its them having to look at the eyesore they created and no grants or money is available to them. Only shame is the locals who are peaceful I Really feel for them, although in most cases the locals are helping "add fuel to the fire" We really need some1 like maggie thatcher who would not compromise or make excuses if it wrong you get trailed to jail by the hair and human rights - when you impose on others rites for a peaceful life then Human Rites NUL AND VOID
