A lottery winner from Northern Ireland has missed out on a £1million windfall after a ticket bought last summer remained unclaimed when the 180 day deadline arrived.

The lucky ticket was bought in the Fermanagh and South Tyrone area and belonged to the EuroMillions Millionaire Raffle prize draw which was held on 3 August, 2012.

However, when the deadline came - Wednesday, 30 January 2013 at precisely 11pm - no ticket holder had come forward.

And now the winner's numbers are up - the major jackpot, plus all the interest it earned since the draw, has been given to The National Lottery Good Causes charity.

A lottery spokesperson said: "To avoid this unfortunate situation happening again, I would urge all National Lottery players to check their tickets on a regular basis.

"We tried very hard to find the ticket-holder and it's a real shame that they have missed out, but there is still one winner - the nation.

"This money, and all the interest earned over the 180 days, will now go to The National Lottery Good Causes - adding to the £29 billion already raised and distributed to over 390,000 individual awards that have benefitted people, communities and projects across the UK."
