The Northern Ireland Prison Service confirmed Sean Gerard Cahill, who was wrongly freed last November, had been returned to custody.
His case was one of a series of similar blunders and saw Justice Minister David Ford come under pressure.
Mr Ford subsequently ordered an investigation into procedures.
Cahill was released after appearing at Laganside Courts in Belfast instead of being returned to custody, after he was convicted of aggravated vehicle taking.
Cahill was expected to attend a further hearing in relation to separate charges of robbery, possession of an offensive weapon and taking a vehicle without the owner's consent.
The mistake was discovered when he failed to appear at Lisburn Magistrates' Court.
