The Police Ombudsman has launched an investigation after police fired three baton rounds during rioting in Craigavon on Saturday night.

Al Hutchinson has appealed for information after the rounds were discharged during disturbances in the Tullygally Road area.

Police said bricks, bottles and iron bars were thrown at officers, seriously damaging three police vehicles.

The area's chief inspector said officers could have been killed.

The trouble started after police moved in to deal with a suspicious device on the Tullygally Road on Saturday afternoon.

The device was used to lure police officers into the area before officers manning the security cordon were attacked, Chief Inspector Jason Murphy said.

The baton rounds were discharged within minutes of each other at around midnight on Saturday.

The Police Ombudsman's wants anyone who saw the discharges, or has information about the circumstances in which they happened, to contact their freephone information line on 0800 032 7880.

Im sure there will be plenty of people who were just "out for a pint of milk" turning up once the ombudsman's red carpet is rolled out for them, way to go "al", tell me, what would the Police in your country do if someone threw petrol bombs at them? I dread to think!
