The fire at Arvalee School and Resource Centre began shortly before midnight on Friday, destroying most of the building just days before pupils were due to begin the new school year.

Along with forensic scientists, a detailed examination was carried out but the cause of the blaze has yet to be established.

Police initially believed the fire was started deliberately.

Further samples have been taken for analysis.

A police spokesperson said that no breaches of the school or its perimeter were found.

"Detectives are keen, though, to hear from anyone who was in the area between about tea-time and midnight on Friday and who saw the fire start."
