At around 6.15pm on Tuesday, patrol officers gave chase to a grey-coloured Citroen C5 car on the Glen Road.

The vehicle had been reported as stolen from a filling station in the Stewartstown Road area earlier in the afternoon.

A stinger device was used on the car which was subsequently abandoned in Suffolk Court.

Two officers sustained injuries after the stolen car reversed into the police vehicle at speed. They did not require hospital treatment.

The driver of the car was detained at the scene and a passenger arrested a short time later.

Police believe one further passenger made off from the scene and enquiries are continuing to trace this individual.

The detained pair, both aged 23, are currently in custody helping police with their enquiries.

John in Newtownabbey - I agree wholeheartedly. Jail them for a long time - it is just a pity our jails are like 5* hotels - they should be sent to a jail like they have in Peru and the likes! I am sick sore and tired of the judiciary letting the decent people of this country down.

That's at least two thugs caught red handed. The PSNI have done their bit. Now we will see how the legal system and Judiciary let us all down with a soft sentence or bail, so they can go out and do exactly the same thing time and time again. This is really getting us nowhere unless the Judges wake up and put these guys out of circulation for a decent spell.

All this car crime seems to be getting a lot of media attention. But its bn going mental for around 30 years why only now has it become an issue that every tom dick and harry have an opinion on?
