Nursing home evacuated during alert

A suspicious object that sparked a security alert in Carrickfergus was nothing untoward, army bomb experts have said.

A nursing home was evacuated after a package was spotted outside shops in the Downshire area in Co Antrim on Thursday morning.

Elderly residents were taken to Carrickfergus Leisure Centre, and a number of other homes were also evacuated.

The Larne Road and Victoria Road were closed but have since reopened.
