Police have said that nothing untoward was found during a security alert in Londonderry.

Searches were carried out following reports of a suspicious object at business premises in the Strand Road area on Friday.

Roads in the area have now been re-opened.

Dissidents republicans have been blamed for a series of security alerts around Northern Ireland on Friday.

SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durkan has condemned those responsible and has said that people are sickened by the ongoing activities of dissidents.

Mr Durkan said: "Once again we have yet another example of the disruptive impact of the violent efforts of so-called dissident groups."

He added: "There is no justification whatsoever for this activity, there never was and there never will be. It simply causes fear, distress and harm to people in Derry and visitors to our city."
