Nobel Peace prize winner Mairead Maguire has appealed to the President of the United States Barack Obama to "lift the land, sea and air siege of Gaza" on her return to Dublin.

Mairead, along with four other Irish peace activists returned to Dublin earlier after being held at a detention centre near Tel Aviv.

Soldiers seized the The MV Rachel Corrie on Saturday evening in the port town of Ashdod.

The last of the peace flotillas was carrying 11 passengers, whose effort was mainly sponsored by the Free Gaza movement, a Cyprus-based group that has renounced violence.

Ms Maguire spoke to UTV as she landed on home soil at Dublin airport: "I would like to appeal to President Obama because he has the power to life the land, sea and air siege of Gaza. President Obama also has the power to say to the Israeli Government enough is enough".

The vessel was around 30 miles outside Gaza when it was intercepted.

The crew of the ship had rejected a deal to unload its cargo in Israel and accompany it across the border.

Last week Israeli commandoes stormed another vessel carrying supplies into the region killing nine people and injuring dozens of others.

More balls than Obama? Pity she didn't use them to stand up to the Brits and Unionist in the North. She's just another one who picks and chooses. Why has she never once condemned British terrorism in the North? no balls, that's why.

Bryan if the Israelis where being slaughtered & starved in their thousands by the people of gaza then im sure this women would be trying to help the them instead, but that isn't the case you idiot. why should she go on about hamas? She is their for the ordinary people of gaza, the people that Israel are starving & killing in their thousands... By the way any side killing is wrong but i bet you don't think that eh?

Supporters of israel are always bleating on about 'rockets'. Get real - a few homemade fireworks that land in empty fields. The facts show only a handful of people were injured by these, compared to the thousands of Gazans killed by Israel. In fact, any other nation treated like the Palestinians are treated would have nuked Tel Aviv by now. The Palestinians are helpless and that's why the Israelis are beating down on them. How cowardly.

An unprecedented measure must be taken to bring peace to the middle east. This is my suggestion: Bring in millions of Chinese migrants to Israel, West Bank and Gaza. The hard working Chinese will give examples to the Jews and Arabs on how to live in this world. We will build casinos so both Jews and Arabs can enjoy themselves. We will build factories, shopping centers, theme parks and others. When both Jews and Arabs are happy they will forget about wars.

Do you not think it is strange that Mairead never speaks out against Hamas attacking Israel .She is very vocal on calling for Israel to stop defending herself but her silence on Hamas is deafening.Maybe if Hamas stopped firing rockets and sending kid suicide bombers into Israel the blockade would be lifted.
