Newtownabbey crash victim dies
A man has died following a crash in Newtownabbey in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The collision between a car and an articulated lorry happened on the Shore Road in Jordanstown shortly after 2am.

Two other people have been injured and taken to hospital, where one is described as being in a serious condition.

The Shore Road remained closed between the Jordanstown Road and the Station Road for much of the morning causing major traffic disruption.

The entrance to Belfast High School was also blocked due to the closure, with access for pupil via a pathway through the grounds of the University of Ulster.

The road has since reopened.

Our emergency services are second to none, the reason it took so long to reopen the road was due to the time of night the accident happened, a detailed inspection of the accident could only be achieved in daylight hours, and the families of the people involved in the accident deserve to know what exactley happened. Although I agree with 2 points pearl made, thoughts to all the families involved and yes we need more staff in the emergency services, NOT CUTS!

can i just say to pearl that yes lives were lost, people injured, but could you please shut up about one road being closed! The reason america is open within the hour is because they're insensitive and greedy money grabbing people and have little respect for the departed. I'm proud of the way the police handle such cases as i'm sure if it was your loved one you wouldnt want every trace of their accident swept away!

First of all my heart goes out to the families who have lost a loved one, and thoughts to those who were injured. However in this day and age it shows how short staffed our emergency services are, Newtownabbey came to a stand still from 8:00am this morning, and the Shore Road will not be opened the rest of the morning, if this was Amercia the road would be opened in an hour.
