A hoax security alert closed a road in Newtownabbey, Co Antrim in the early hours of Friday morning.

A suspicious object found in the O'Neill Road area sparked the alert shortly before 1am.

Army technical officers attended the scene and examined the object.

The road was closed at the roundabout at Church Road to the roundabout at Doagh Road but has now reopened.
