Newborn baby found dead in car boot

A baby girl has been found dead in the boot of a car in east Belfast.

The newborn was discovered in a vehicle off the Upper Newtownards Road at around 9.45pm on Tuesday.

The Ambulance Service confirmed that they were called to the scene, but did not take any action.

A PSNI spokesperson said officers are assessing the results of a post-mortem examination following the sudden death.

Police are continuing their inquiries with the baby's family.

Alliance East Belfast MP Naomi Long has said that she was deeply saddened to hear of the death.

"I would ask if anyone has any information that may assist the police in their investigations to come forward," she said.

Well spotted Johnsie - I too considered informing UTV of their reporting error. I don't see any harm in your comment after all you were only asking why the photo didn't reflect the true location. The other posters seem to have reacted thinking you didn't care when all you were doing was questioning the validity of the news report. It is quite plain for all to see that you made no derogatory comment whatsoever.

No offence Johnsie, who cares if it was upper or lower, the bottom line is there is a poor helpless baby dead and he/she was found in the boot of a car. SURELY THATS MORE CONCERNINg than showing the picture of the wrong part of the road.

This is a pretty sad story by all accounts and likely to be even sadder when the full details emerge. People should maybe be more concerned for those who are involved and no doubt in a lot of pain dealing with such a tragic loss, and worry less about the location in which the picture has been taken which given the circumstances is totally irrelevant. Hopefully there are some more thoughtful people left in this country, and concerns about a picture location are limited to a sad minority with more time on their hands than sympathy in their hearts.
