New Sainsbury''s store in west Belfast
Plans for a new Sainsbury’s store in Co. Down have been given the go ahead.

Environment Minister Edwin Poots said a "new modern store" will be built at Balloo Retail Park in Bangor near the Homebase outlet.

"It will be a welcome boost in terms of job creation with approximately 350 full and part time jobs."

The application is for part demolition of existing buildings, the construction of a new retail store and extension of the existing retail warehouse.

It is the eighth major planning application approved by the Environment Minister in the past twelve months.

Chris Templeman, Head of Property Development at Sainsbury's, said the development represents a multi-million pound investment.

"This development is great news for the local economy in terms of job creation and an additional Sainsbury's store means increased business for our local suppliers."

North Down MLA Alex Easton said the development will "give greater consumer choice."

"The economy and job creation is a key goal for us in Government in these testing economic times."

Great news sainsbury opening in bangor will make the big two look over their shoulder. This country needs all the investment it can get with the job losses over the last year. Our industry is vanishing and the next few years will be tough so this is good news.
