NI pipe band wins 10th world title

Lisburn's Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band have been crowned world champions for the 10th time at the annual competition at Glasgow Green.

Saturday saw the fourth consecutive win for the Northern Ireland band, which is the world's most successful pipe band.St Laurence O'Toole from Dublin claimed third place behind Field Marshal Montgomery.There was also success also for Bleary & District Pipe Band from Co Down who came runners up in the Grade 2 Championships.Northern Ireland's Drum Majors also featured on the World Stage with two Drum Majors winning world titles. Zoe McDowell won the Junior World Championship title and Lauren Abraham winning the Juvenile World Championship title.In total 10 pipe bands came away from the World Pipe Championships with silverware having competing against a combined 188 pipe bands.Northern Ireland's Drum Majors continue to dominate the world stage, as they claimed 15 of a possible 18 prizes available on the day.2014 Grade 1 World Champions @fmmpb led by Pipe Major Richard Parkes #wpbc2014pic.twitter.com/jxLGR8SgyB— RSPBA Headquarters (@RSPBAHQ) August 16, 2014
