Portuguese police have confirmed to The Portugal News they were called to a hotel in the Albufeira area in the south of the country on Monday night.
Police would not disclose further details, however, it's thought they were called to the resort over concerns for the child's safety.
Eye witnesses have been reported as saying the girl's parents were seen acting in a drunken manner before the authorities arrived at the scene.
It's understood the 14-month-old baby was taken to hospital.
The British Embassy in Lisbon would only confirm that it is providing consular assistance.
A spokesman said: "We do not talk about individual cases when a minor is concerned."
The case has been passed to the family court and the girl remains in care under a court order.
The Public Prosecutor is set to decide on how the case will proceed and if charges will be made against her parents.
