NI arrest over England container death

The PSNI has arrested a man in connection with an Essex Police investigation into the death of a man found in a shipping container in England.

The man was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and facilitating illegal entry into the United Kingdom.The 34-year-old from Limavady, Co Londonderry, was arrested just after midday on Tuesday on the A1 at Banbridge, Co Down.He is currently in police custody at Antrim Serious Crime Suite pending his transportation to Great Britain for questioning by Essex Police.PSNI officers also carried out a search of the man's home address and a number of other properties.The arrest comes after a man was found dead in a shipping container in England.Meet Singh Kapoor, 40, was one of 35 people, including 15 children, from Afghanistan found in a container at Tilbury docks.Police said the people were victims of people trafficking.Belgian police said they believed the stowaways were already in the container when it left Zeebrugge for Tilbury on Friday.The UK Home Office has said it is considering asylum applications from those found hidden on the vessel.Acting Detective Chief Inspector Martin Pasmore, of Essex Police, said: "This is a fast-moving investigation which has already involved a number of police forces and law enforcement agencies from across the United Kingdom and Europe."I am very grateful to officers from the PSNI for their assistance this morning. We will continue to work closely with all of our policing colleagues as we pursue our investigation to bring those responsible for this crime to justice."
