A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was shot in the arm with a crossbow in south Belfast.

The 29-year-old was attacked as he sat in a parked car in Belgravia Avenue on Wednesday evening.

He was taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. A woman, also 29, who was also in the car was not hurt.

Police later arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of several offences including attempted murder, grievous bodily harm and criminal damage.

He currently remains in custody, assisting police with their enquiries.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, which happened at around 5.20pm, has been asked to contact the PSNI on the non-emergency number 101.
