Jennifer Toland appeared before Ballymena Magistrates' Court on Thursday, where a detective constable said she believed she could connect the 23-year-old with the charge.

The court heard from the officer how Mr Acheson, 72, was found lying in his home by an ambulance crew following an apparent aggravated burglary.

He and his wife Sheila, 70, were said to have been woken up by the sound of breaking glass in the early hours of Monday 30 April.

Mrs Acheson had told police that she overheard a verbal altercation between her husband and a male intruder, during which money was demanded.

She further claimed that there was a scuffle and the sound of gasping for breath.

During the court proceedings, Toland looked ashen-faced and clutched a tissue.

She was granted bail by District Judge Des Perry and is due back in court on 29 November.
