Rachael Martin told police she thought her 15-month-old daughter was coming down with a bad flu on the day she was rushed to hospital.

A transcript of an interview the 27-year-old gave to police the day after Millie died was read out at Dungannon Crown Court. She was not under investigation at that time.

She is accused of wilfully neglecting and allowing the death of her daughter, while her 33-year-old former partner Barry McCarney denies murdering and sexually and physically abusing the toddler.

Martin, from Main Street in Kesh, revealed McCarney nursed Millie on his knee while she left their house to get chips.

She said when she put Millie to bed that night the little girl seemed all right, but later that night Millie was rushed to hospital and later died from a blow to her head.

Rachael Martin denies the charges arising from her daughter's death.

The trial continues.
