Motorists pay an extra £10 to fill up
Drivers are paying £10 more to fill their car with petrol because of increases since the start of the year, according to the local consumer watchdog.

The Consumer Council called for greater transparency from the fuel industry and said buyers had endured unprecedented changes.

It now costs £54 to fill the average car with petrol.

"The fuel industry supplying our petrol and diesel needs to do more than simply tell consumers they are getting a good deal," Aodhan O'Donnell, head of transport at the Council, said.

"It must explain to consumers how the costs incurred at each stage of production and supply affects the final price paid at the pumps. Consumers do accept that the price of petrol and diesel will fluctuate but they must be provided with consistent information on what is driving the cost both upward and downward.

"This is a positive challenge for the fuel industry to demonstrate fairness to consumers in its pricing."

it is an absolute disgrace the costs thet the british motoring public are expected to endure! the oil industry are making a fortune (as are the government through fuel duty!) while the normal british citizen struggles just to maintain a basic standard of living! this would not be tolerated in america! so why should we put up with it!? when are they going to stop being so arrogant and realise they are bringing this nation to its knees!!!

While I see people here in Derry using the pumps ( mostly card holders ) most fill up at one of the border stations because it's cheaper to do so. Price in sterling at Bridgend, co donegal is 96.3p with 10% rate on sterling. About 2 miles along the road in the village of Muff it's less with a better sterling rate of 15%...The goverment and the oil companies in the uk are totally to blame for the price... 114p-117p a litre is madness, do they care so long as you keep buying? I think not...

This is ridiculous! To the highest degree, surely if the price of petrol hits over a pound the government should reduce the amount of tax they charge to make it under a pound, so they not realise that they are crippling every single person in Britain who drives. We NEED our transport as we know that public transport is even more expensive and is so unreliable.

In Fermanagh here we're already paying anything from 114p per litre to 117p per litre. Will be nice if the price of our fuel stays stable while the rest of the country catches up.
