The crash happened on the Ballynakilly Road in Coalisland shortly after 9.30am on Monday.

The driver of the second lorry has been taken to Craigavon Area Hospital for treatment.

The Ballynakilly Road remains closed.

Meanwhile a pensioner who died following a crash on the M1 close to Dungannon on Sunday has been named.

Cookstown man Robin Steenson, 71, was on his motorbike when he crashed on the country-bound lane between the Birches and Tamnamore, at 5.15pm.

Police have appealed for anyone with information about either of the crashes to contact them.

South Antrim DUP MP William McCrea said the last 24 hours, in which three people have died on NI's roads, have seen families plunged into great sadness.

"I extend my sympathy to them and assure all the family circles involved that they are foremost in my prayers.

"In the case of Robin Steenson, I have known that family for decades since I was first involved in elected politics. I have many fond memories of Robin and I'm deeply saddened by his sudden passing.

"As MP for Antrim, my heart pours out for the family of the one-year-old child who was killed this morning. As a father and grandfather, I know how precious these little lives are and I can't begin to understand the grief that has visited this family.

"I also sympathise with the family of the 38 year-old lorry-driver who was killed in Coalisland on this tragic day," he added.
