Motorcyclist dies in Co Down crash

A motorcyclist has died following a crash near Ballynahinch, Co Down on Monday.

The one-vehicle incident happened on the Downpatrick Road at the junction of the Mossvale Road just before 6pm.Alliance Down Councillor Patrick Clarke has expressed his condolences following the man's death."I am deeply saddened that this motorcyclist has lost his life on the road. I would like to express my sympathies to his family and friends," Cllr Clarke said.CHAR(13) + CHAR(10) CHAR(13) + CHAR(10)"We must do more to improve road safety to prevent further lives being lost on our roads. I know the Environment Minister has looked to improve road safety through several high profile campaigns, but it is clear that he must increase his efforts. CHAR(13) + CHAR(10) CHAR(13) + CHAR(10)"I would urge all road users to use extra caution when out on the road and to be vigilant of others."Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact investigating officers.The area between the between Comber Road and Magheralone Road was sealed off to allow for investigations to take place.The road has since been reopened to traffic.Police are appealing for witnesses after a male motorcyclist died following an RTC on Downpatrick Rd, Ballynahinch around 5.50pm on Monday.— PSNI Traffic (@PSNITraffic) August 18, 2014
