More time granted over double murder

Police investigating a double murder in south east Belfast have been granted a second extension of time to question a 32-year-old man over the killings.

The bodies of Caron Smyth, 40, and Finbar McGrillen, 42, were discovered at an apartment in Ravenhill Court on Friday, 13 December.

On Saturday, detectives from Serious Crime Branch were granted a further 36 hours to question the man.

Prior to this, detectives were given an extra 24 hours of questioning time on Friday.

The man was arrested on Thursday.

Elsewhere, another man, 33, was remanded in custody after appearing in court on Thursday in connection with the murders.

Shaun Hegarty, who is 33 and from Gráinne House in the New Lodge, is due to appear again in four weeks' time.

Police inquiries into the murders are continuing
