Further postal strikes have been announced by the Communication Workers Union, despite talks with Royal Mail aimed at averting industrial action.

Two more one-day strikes next Friday November 6th and on Monday November 9th have been called.

Mediators say both sides will be considering a series of proposals over the weekend - with more talks planned next week.

The union's general secretary Billy Hayes said the workers have no choice.

He said: "We are increasingly frustrated with Royal Mail - that every time we get near an agreement, they seem to walk away.

"So we do want to get a resolution to this dispute and that's why we're issuing this notice now, because we wantt his matter wrapped up."

Mark Higson, Managing Director of Royal Mail Letters said: "The CWU claims to want a resolution to this dispute, yet they know that more strike action will distract from the important discussions that need to take place and to which we at Royal Mail are committed.

"Royal Mail will of course continue to honour Brendan Barber's request today not to discuss those talks," he added.
