The find was made at Hawkin Street close to the city centre on 12 December, 2012.

Gary McPhilips, 30, from Hawkin Street, is charged with possessing a sub-machine gun with a sound suppressor.

He is also charged with possessing a pistol, 54 rounds of ammunition, two hand grenades and a stun gun. He is further charged with possessing and possessing with intent to supply the drugs MDNA, ecstasy and methedrone.

Ryan O'Reilly, 27, from Meadowbank Court, is charged with possessing a blank firing pistol and with possessing the weapon without a firearms certificate.

Both men said they had nothing to say in answer to the charges.

Their solicitors accepted they had a prima facie case to answer and the defendants were remanded in continuing custody until they are arraigned on the charges at the city's Crown Court on 31 March.
