Two men have been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of Londonderry man Paul McCauley.

A 36 year-old and a 21 year-old were detained in Derry on Thursday morning.

Paul McCauley, 34, remains in a vegetative state after being attacked by a gang of loyalists at a BBQ he had been attending at a house on the Chapel Road in the Waterside area of the city on 15 July 2006.

In the early hours of that morning, a group of up to 15 people came from out of the bushes at the rear of the property and set upon Paul and two of his friends.

The latest suspects to be detained are being questioned at Strand Road PSNI station.

Let me get this straight John, a young man is attending a bbq the night before he was to go away and teach in another country he is attacked by a group of Loyalists, left in a coma for the rest of his life unable to do anything, can’t communicate with his parents, girlfriend or daughter, the police make arrests and as far as you are concerned they are working to a sinn fein agenda. Is that what you are saying? By the way if you live in the city you should know the police did release cctv footage of young nationalists attacking the fountain before and I also would like proof of all these attacks you are speaking of I have been in foyleside and the town centre and have seen people wearing NI tops and a few Rangers tops and not 1 word has been said to them
