A memorial service has been held for a Ballygowan woman who died after the plane she was travelling on from Brazil to Paris plunged into the Atlantic.

Eithne Walls, 28, was among 228 people who died in the Air France crash nearly two weeks ago.

Over a thousand people attended a mass at Mary Mother of the Church in Saintfield, County Down.

Her uncle Father Micheal McGourty delivered the homily.

He told the congregation that Eithne "flew into our life and after too short a time flew out again."

"She achieved so much in her short life and did so without any fuss."

"Her beautiful face and vivacious spirit drew everyone to her."

Dr Walls was returning from holiday in Brazil with her friends Aisling Butler, of Roscrea, Co Tipperary and Jane Deasy of Dublin also aged in their 20s.

She was a talented Irish dancer who performed on Broadway with the world famous Riverdance troupe.
