Strangford MLA David McNarry is facing an investigation by the Ulster Unionists' disciplinary committee, in the wake of an internal party row.

UUP chairman David Campbell confirmed on Thursday that the action was being taken, over alleged indiscipline and breaches of party confidentiality by Mr McNarry.

The committee will also be asked to examine and report on similar allegations regarding other unnamed party members.

I have today referred the ‘McNarry Affair’ to the disciplinary committee of the Ulster Unionist Party for investigation.

"The disciplinary committee will report in due course to the party officers," Mr Campbell said. "There is to be no further comment on this issue from any party member."

Mr McNarry was dropped from his role as deputy chair of the Education Committee by UUP leader Tom Elliott, as punishment for "going too far" in a newspaper interview about talks with the DUP.

The MLA promptly quit the UUP Assembly Group and, lashing out in a UTV interview on Monday, warned that Mr Elliott was "digging a hole for himself".

I bet Tom Elliot wishes he took up the Conservatives on their offer last year, if he'd done that (with a guarantee of autonomy on N.I. policy matters and selection of candidates to elections), he'd be spared this death-by-a-thousand-cuts being played out in full glare of the media! The UUP are pretty much kaput, with the liberal members heading for Alliance, establishment members heading for the new N.I. Conservatives, and hopefully the traditionalist/conservative members headed for either the DUP, TUV, or not bother joining and/or voting for anyone (like 80, 000 other formerly voting unionists)...

The most fundamental political decision that the uup now have on the agenda is whether to have the pavalova or the fruit salad at their next dinner!!.
