A bail application by high profile republican Colin Duffy who is accused of murdering two soldiers was adjourned at the last minute on Tuesday.

Duffy, who is 41 and comes from Lurgan, has been in custody since last March when Sappers Patrick Azimkar and Mark Quinsey were shot dead by the Real IRA outside Massereene army barracks in Antrim.

About 20 relations and friends were in the High Court for Duffy's first bail application since he and another man were charged with the killings.

The hearing was due to be conducted by video link with Maghaberry Prison.

But defence counsel Mark Mulholland applied for an adjournment. He said it had been anticipated that an outstanding report on soil analysis would have been made available before the hearing began.

"Unfortunately, although the report will be finished today I have no oral indication of its finding," he said.

Mr Mulholland added that an alternative address to Duffy's home had been provided to the police for their approval in the event of Duffy being granted bail.
