Dean Owen, who has severe spinal damage in a crash 13 years ago, decided to raise money for little four-year-old Caleb Kerr.
Caleb's family are trying to raise £70,000 for an operation to help him walk unaided.
The four-year-old has spastic cerebral palsy which means the muscles in his body are very tight and he can't put his feet flat on the ground.
"It should improve his balance, it should also allow him to get his feet flat on the floor and walk with more normality than what he is doing," his mum Heather said.
On Saturday, Dean will swim 20 miles on open water from Masserene to Maghery to help raise the funds Caleb needs.
"I can relate to his mobility issues and I just want to see the little boy walk," he told UTV.
For Caleb and his family, it could be a swim that can change their lives.
