The men, aged 27 and 25, were injured in the incident in the Waterside area of the town at around 1.20am.

Both were taken to hospital for treatment, however, police said their injuries were not life-threatening.

The 27-year-old was treated for a stab wound and the other man was treated for a head injury.

Police said they believed the assailants took off in a black BMW after the incident.

A short time later a similar vehicle was recovered by police along with a number of other items including a knife.

They were taken away for forensic examination and police have appealed for information.
