A routine police patrol received reports of the incident in the Iveagh Drive area at around 3.30am on Sunday.
An ambulance was called and searches of the area were carried out.
A short time later police arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of grevious bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.
A 26-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Both have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
The injured man was taken to hospital where his condition is described as stable.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Tennent Street.
