Two men reportedly carried out the attack in the Kerrigan Close area at about 10pm on Monday.

Police said the victim has been taken to hospital for treatment.

His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Sinn Féin Councillor Patricia Logue has condemned the shooting.

"There can be absolutely no justification for this type of action.

"Whatever organisation carried this out, needs to come forward and give a clear explanation for their actions," she added.

"We are in a new era, we are creating a new society for the younger generation and there can be no place for this type of activity."

Anyone with more information on what happened has been asked to contact the PSNI.
