A masked gang of up to five men burst into the property in the Creggan area on Tuesday night
The 14-year-old sister of a Londonderry man shot in his home was held at gunpoint while the gang attack took place.

A masked gang of up to five men burst into the property in the Creggan area on Tuesday night.

They headed upstairs and shot the 23-year-old victim in the legs five times before escaping on foot.

The teenager was held downstairs with some school friends while the men struck.

The victim is being treated in hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Parish priest Father Stephen McLaughlin has condemned the attack.

"Some of the armed men went upstairs and discharged their weapons and in the process of doing so they wounded the man five times," he said.

"One of the bullets ricoched down through the floor into the living room below where the young people were sitting," he added.

An hour later, a masked gang broke into the west Belfast home of a young man in the Rossnareen Road area.

The 24-year-old man was shot in both legs.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Sinn Fein MLA Paul Maskey has described the attack as 'disgusting'.

"I think this is wrong whoever has carried this out is carrying out for no other reason than probably self gain. Many people within our community are totally opposed to this," Mr Maskey said.

"People are clearly stating to me they do not want to see these attacks taking place certainly not in a residential area."
