A man has been shot in the leg in the Creggan area of Londonderry.

The victim was put into a car in Ferguson Street at around 7.30pm on Tuesday.

He was taken to an area between Rinmore Drive and Central Drive and shot once in the lower right leg.

SDLP Derry City Councillor Jim Clifford hit out at those responsible for the paramilitary-style attack.

Cllr Clifford said: "This is a despicable act which has disgusted the majority of people in the Creggan area.

"These kind of so-called 'punishment shootings' have no place in our city and must be stopped.

"People here do not want this violence, intimidation and fear being imposed on our community," he said.

John, the Fleadh has already been lost to derry before this even happened and do not for one second believe that this loss has anything to do with bombs or shootings. There were people from derry voting AGAINST the fleadh coming here because it would coincide with the city of culture. Do not be surprised when sinn fein bring the fleadh to derry in 2-4 years and are hailed as "heroes", I can't say fully what I think or the comment would be removed for libel reasons

Dissident SCUM at it again even though the Derry Fleadh is in jeopardy, as a Nationalist I totally reject anything that they stand for or believe in, they are NOT acting on my behalf or ANY other right thinking Nationalist/Republican. They are vermin that need 2b erradicated and banished from Society.
