The incident happened at around 1.15am on Wednesday.

It is understood the man jumped into the water after noticing his girlfriend was missing.

Police and NI Fire and Rescue Service crews were called to the scene, however the man managed to get back out of the Lagan himself.

A statement from the PSNI said: "Police and a number of emergency agencies attended but no rescue was required".
