Shaun Hegarty, who's 33 and from Grainne House in the New Lodge, faces charges of murdering Caron Smyth and Finbar McGrillen during a domestic incident last week.

The bodies of Ms Smyth, 40, and Mr McGrillen, 42, were discovered at an apartment in Ravenhill Court at around 3pm last Friday.

Police had been called to the scene to investigate a suspected burglary.

A detective sergeant said he could connect Hegarty to the alleged offences. He was remanded in custody to appear again before the court in four weeks time.

Meanwhile police investigating the murders have arrested a 32-year-old man.

He was detained in west Belfast on Thursday morning and has been taken to the Serious Crime Suite at Antrim Police Station to be questioned.
