The incident sparked a security alert in the Duncairn Gardens area of the city on Monday.

Police arrested a 27-year-old as part of their investigations.

He was released on police bail on Tuesday, pending further inquiries.

The pipe bomb, described by the army bomb squad as viable, was removed from the scene following extensive examinations and there were no reports of any injuries.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: "Police continue to appeal for anyone with any information about this incident to contact them in Tennent Street on the non-emergency number 101."
