Man released over college stabbing

A man who was arrested after a student was stabbed at the Millfield campus of the Belfast Metropolitan College has been released.

The victim, aged 26, was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition following the incident which unfolded shortly after 11am on Thursday morning.A second man, who was detained by officers at the scene, also received treatment for injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.Police said a 20-year-old was released on bail on Friday.A student who witnessed the aftermath of the incident, which happened in a toilet block, told UTV it had been a distressing ordeal for everyone on campus.Meanwhile a spokesman for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service told UTV that paramedics had been called to a fight at the Millfield campus and that knives had been involved.Belfast Met said the incident is unprecedented in the college's history.
