The man was arrested on Monday in west Belfast and was questioned at Antrim Serious Crime Suite.
Dissident republicans have been blamed for planting the device outside the policeman's home in the Upper Newtownards Road area of Belfast in December 2012.
The officer was taking his wife and two children out for lunch on a Sunday afternoon when he discovered the bomb.
