The 20-year-old was arrested on Tuesday in connection with trouble in the Albertbridge Road area on 12 January, after a flag protest.
He is charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm on a constable, two further attacks on police, riotous behaviour, possession of an offensive weapon, obstruction of a road and criminal damage, to appear before Belfast Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
The charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service, in line with normal procedure.
