A man has been struck by a car as he tried to stop thieves stealing the vehicle from his north Belfast home, a police spokesperson said.

A gang burst into the property in Carrs Glen Park at around 3.30am on Tuesday and took the keys to the vehicle.

When the householder became aware of the break-in, he tried to stop the robbers escaping and was hit by the car.

Police said the victim in his 40s received medical treatment by paramedics at the scene for injuries to his arm and knee.

The vehicle also struck a parked car and was later found abandoned at near-by Ardilea Street.

The car was taken away for further examination, police added.
