Details have just been released about the attack which took place on Thursday evening in the Knockbreda Park area of the city.

The victim was in a car with two other men at around 11.50pm when the gang approached them in a vehicle which is described as being an old style, dark coloured Volkswagen Passat.

The attackers got out and smashed a window of the parked car before bundling the young man into their vehicle.

He was taken to an unknown house in the Holywood area of Co Down where he was assaulted several times.

He was released and returned to his home between 1am and 2am on Friday.

He has since received hospital treatment for injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

One of the assailants is described as being around 5ft 4in in height, about 18 years of age, of slim build and with short fair hair.

He was wearing a navy hooded tracksuit with gloves.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
