Man 'kicked in head' in Derry

A man had to be treated in hospital after being kicked in the head and knocked unconscious, during a weekend attack by a gang in Londonderry.

The victim was knocked to the ground near the library at Foyle Street at about 2am on Sunday.

According to police, he was kicked about the head and upper body and knocked out.

It is believed that up to four people were involved in carrying out the assault.

A PSNI spokesman said: "The injured man was taken by ambulance to Altnagelvin Hospital, but was later discharged."

Officers are investigating the attack and have appealed for information.
