Tomas Horney, 34, shared the same house as Mr Ximenes at Woodvale Park in the Co Tyrone town.

Mr Ximenes, who had worked in the local area, died as a result of a stabbing at the address.

At a special sitting of Omagh Magistrates' Court on Saturday, the proceedings were relayed to Horney by an interpreter.

He replied "Yes" when asked if he understood the charge against him.

A PSNI detective sergeant told the court that police received an emergency '999' call around 5.25am on Thursday.

However, it was difficult to understand the 'unknown' male caller as his English was 'very broken' and he was not able to explain what had happened.

When police officers went to the address, they discovered a deceased man in a bed in a ground floor bedroom.

No bail application was made and Horney was remanded in custody.

He will appear before Dungannon Magistrates' Court by videolink on 28 August.
