Shortly before 12am on Tuesday the victim was driving on the Newtownbreda Road area when his car was hit by a 4x4 and forced to stop.
Two men carrying hammers got out of the dark-coloured Honda CRV and approached the man, who got out of his car and made off on foot.
He suffered minor injuries to his knee and ribs but his car was substantially damaged.
The pair drove off in their own vehicle, which was later seen driving erratically in the Lenaghan Park area when it hit a pedestrian, who was not injured.
