Barry James Stapleton is also accused of having cocaine with intent to supply. He has been remanded in custody.

The 28-year-old has an address at Donegal Quay in Belfast. Charges were brought against him by the Serious Organised Crime Agency.

He was detained by police on Thursday following investigations in an apartment in the city.

Stapleton denies two counts of conspiracy to import Class B drugs, namely mephedrone, and possession of Class A cocaine with intent to supply.

Belfast Magistrates' Court heard he believed he had so-called legal highs.

Stapleton was refused bail and is due to appear by video-link next month.
