Man held at gunpoint in robbery bid

A man was threatened with a gun to his head during an attempted robbery at a house in Lisburn.

A man claiming to be from an electric company called to the door of the property in the Hillview Avenue area on Friday at around 4.30pm.

He then pointed a gun at the man who answered the door before he was joined by a second man - but the victim was able to escape through the back of the house and raise the alarm.

The suspects and a third man, who is believed to have remained in a vehicle, then fled the scene in a silver coloured Chrysler people carrier which was later reported on fire nearby at Priory Close at around 8pm.

A black car was reported as leaving Priory Close at speed a short time later.

The man who called to the door was described as being around 5'6" tall, of medium build with short dark hair. He was wearing a dark coloured casual jacket and blue jeans.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who has any information or noticed suspicious activity in the Hillview Avenue or Priory Close areas to contact CID in Lisburn.
