It happened in the Newmills Road area of the town at around 9am on Thursday.
The Health and Safety Executive is investigating the accident.
Alliance Councillor Yvonne Boyle offered her condolences to the man's family and friends.
"This is a tragic accident," she said.
"I hope that [the Health and Safety Executive] will be able to provide answers to the family and ensure that this accident is not repeated.
"There have been several workplace deaths in recent years, so I would encourage all businesses to ensure that their safety regulations are up to standard," Cllr Boyle added.
