A man has died in Skerries, north Dublin, after an incident involving a digger.

It happened at a construction site in the Harbour Road area of the town on Friday.

Gardaí said the 54-year-old victim was a member of the public.

It is understood he may have been taking photographs at the building site when he was crushed between the heavy digger and a wall.

A statement from Irish police continued: "Gardai in Balbriggan investigating the sudden death of a male at a building site on Harbour Road yesterday wish to appeal for witnesses.

"They are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in and around Harbour Road at the time of the incident, at approximately 11.50am, and who may have witnesses this incident or be able to assist with the investigation."
